National Young Readers' Day
To celebrate National Young Readers' Day, Mrs. Bush arranged for several local business men and women to come to Westridge to read to our students for 30 minutes.  It was a great opportunity to extend our appreciation for good literature.
Reading Incentive Program
On the board in the front hall you will see that we have read 2450 books so far. Our goal is to read 5000 by Dec. 22nd, so that on Dec. 23rd we can have a read in – or day of reading. Keep reading, Westridge!!  Check with Mrs. Cole or Mrs. Nadeau for more details.
Proud to be American

Thank you to Mrs. Nordan, Mrs. Bush, and all of those who shared photographs of loved ones serving in the military now or in the past.  Thank you to our Westridge chorus, and to the military parents who spoke today to tell us about what Veteran's Day means to them.  Thank you to the sons and daughters who introduced their parents to the assembly as well as to those whose art work and cards are displayed throughout the hallways of Westridge.

This celebration was a heartwarming remembrance of the sacrifices made by our military and their families so that the world will be a better and safer place.

Check the Latest News in Photos to see a slideshow of of our patriotic celebration.

Kirk Martin Workshop
On December 3rd, at Westridge Elementary, a nationally known speaker, Kirk Martin, will be conducting a workshop for parents at 7:00pm. The workshop is called “Creating a Stress-Free Home and School.” He will provided practical strategies to address the following :
•    Create a Stress-Free home—eliminate yelling, arguing and power struggles (even with teens).
•    Channel disrespect and defiance into problem solving.
•    Help improve focus, attention and behavior in school.
•    Relieve anxiety and sensory issues.
•    Help students develop vision, internal motivation and responsibility.
•    Create stress-free discipline and homework time.
•    Get your kids off their video games without saying a word.

He will also explain why your kids are bossy, anxious, and easily overwhelmed; sabotage friendships, demand fairness and say, “I’m bored”; like to argue, fidget, make noises or chew; have difficulty writing, sleeping and maintaining eye contact. Medication, nutrition and handling siblings will be addressed as well.

Operation Turkey
Thank you, Westridge, for your generosity to ACTS as they get ready to help others have a delicious Thanksgiving.  Our KORT officers loaded up the truck with your donations!
Communication

We are here to provide the best education and learning environment possible for our Westridge Knights.  If ever you have a concern, the teacher involved should be the first person you speak to about it.   It is best to schedule a conference as soon as a need arises.  Talking face to face always seems to work best especially at the beginning of the school year as parents, teachers and students are getting to know one another.  After a relationship is established, a phone call may be sufficient.  Email may be a tool to set up a conference, but not to conduct any extended dialogue.

If after a teacher conference you wish further discussion, please contact Mrs. Bush for Grades K - 3 and Mrs. Hayden for Grades 4, 5 and Specialists. The more we work together, the greater the benefit to our students!
